My shopping list included two species of hardwoods: birdseye maple and cherry. I got motivated to go on a run for wood after learning that Allen from Milwaukee Woodworks had a new supply of birdseye maple in stock. While it’s not exactly around the corner for me, it’s worth the trip because Allen offers a great selection of popular hardwoods and great prices.
He wanted to cut my knee open right then and there, but since I’m squeemish about blood and needles, he put me on a strong antibiotic and said to come back in a couple of days. After a couple of days the thing didn’t look any better (he thought it looked worse, and it still hurt like a mofo) so he cut it open and drained out the fluid.
Sometimes it seems that rabbits are the most forgotten pet in the house. Usually quiet, they can’t bark or meow to get your attention and they’re often locked in cages where they aren’t noticed until feeding time. Just because rabbits are quiet, though, doesn’t mean they aren’t intelligent, playful creatures. In fact, rabbits are very smart, and can get health problems from lack of mental stimulation.
Flooring nailers are generally about $100 more, mostly because of the added complexity of a plunger mechanism. Of course the top brand names cost more, but they’re generally of a higher quality than the house brands at some hardware stores. Hope that helps.
When is the last time you took a close look at your gutters to see how well they were functioning? The next time it rains, step outside to see how the water is running off your roof. If it is flowing through your gutters and into the downspouts, all is well. If it’s pouring off the roof in other places, it’s a good sign that your gutters and/or downspouts probably need to be cleared of debris.
I was able to eventually get this guy to talk about pricing and he was running all sorts of numbers on his Ipad and Iphone and quickly showing me what he said would be industry pricing to do the work. (Oddly, he asked to use my Wifi at this time, because he said he wasn’t getting good reception. I am going to have to change my password now it and update all my devices, which is going to be a pain.) He never left me a copy of what he wrote down on that paper, but did write, at my request, the cost for the roof and window on his business card. I guess this is what passes for as an estimate. $15,500 for the roof, $8,100 for the bow window, and about $22,000 for the siding. And it was urgent that they do the work, really really urgent.
